Use an established or shelf-checked number. One letter followed by digits; leave blank to use the table. Changing filing text clears this field.

Check the shelflist before assigning. LC provides a starting table; grouped or omitted letter values need cataloguer judgment. Existing numbers and classification instructions take priority.

About this tool & its limits

This is an LC G 63 table assistant. It does not implement Cutter–Sanborn tables or query a library catalogue. A surname, title, or corporate name must be chosen according to the catalogue entry and applicable classification instructions.

For direct table entries it generates a draft and optional expansion digits. For grouped entries (such as S + h–i) or omitted letters it shows the relevant group or interval and asks for a reviewed Cutter. Numeral filing, non-Latin romanization, initials, and schedule-specific Cutters need additional cataloguing decisions. For Roman numeral filing, choose “Numeral entry” and supply the shelf-checked Cutter.

For title filing, the optional article rule skips only initial English A, An, and The. Diacritics in Latin text are simplified; confirm the established filing form. Calculations run in your browser. The plugin does not store or send your entered text.
