Brief History of Internet with definition of Internet

The Internet has revolutionized the computer and communications world like nothing before. The invention of the Telegraph, telephone, Radio, and Computer set the stage for this unprecedented integration of capabilities. The Internet is at is at once a world-wide broadcasting capability, mechanism for information dissemination and a medium for collaboration and interaction between individuals and their computers without regard for geographical location. The Internet represents one of the most successful examples of the benefits of sustained investment and commitment to research and development of information infrastructure.

Dealing the internet isn’t easy. Because unlike any other technology, the Internet can be whatever we make it. We can shape it. We can mold it. But most importantly, we can use it to connect people, communities, and countries around the world.

Internet is a framework of inter-networking system composed of computer system, communication channels, communication software’s, telephone system and networking system. It connects people throughout the world.

From the very beginning of twentieth century there was an existence of cold war between USA and Soviet Union. Both of the countries were tried to develop their communication system as a part of the art of warfare. At that time Russia parked the Satellite in the geostationary orbit to communicate and collect information from other parts of the world. USA then planned to develop their internal communication infrastructure. As a part of this US defense department decides to launch a network based on the principles of RAND Corporation (In 1960, RAND corporation of America) made publicly the first network with the principle that three would not be any central authority.

The defense department of USA decided to obstruct the invention from distance. In this connection they give the responsibility to Paul Barren of Rolled Institute. In 1964Paul Barren Invented the concept of Internet. In the 1969 the Advanced Research project Agency (DARPA) under construct to the US Defense Department applied this concept and constructed a computer network among only four computers of Standard Research Institute in California, university of California at Los Angeles, University of California at Santa Barbara and university of Utah. This original network, the very first computer network, was called ARPANET (Advance Research Project Agency Network), It was built with the Intension to create a network that would still be available to function efficiently it part of the network was damaged.

With the invention of ARPANET the first travel of Internet started from the 1st September 1969. After the moment, different technologies and techniques were started to develop and their involvement with the Internet bring the medium today’s status.

In the mid 1970’2 the ARPA developed a set of rules called TCP/IP. This protocol enabled a variety of networks to be linked with the original ARPANET backbone. The number of networks connected to grow over the year. ARPANET did not originally use the TCP/IP suite from the beginning. Instead the ARPANET used Network Control Protocol (NCP). TCP/IP completely replaced NCP from 1938.

In the mid 1980’s ARPANET was splited into two networks, MILNET (Military Network) to support Military works and ARPANET to support the academic community. In 1982, ARPANET joined with MILNET and ARMY, others and the Internet was thus formed from this consolidation of network. So it is clear that begins 1982, the internet was basically restricted into a specific type of computer network. After 1982 more networks were joined to ARPANET and constitute the actual Internetworking system, and thus the term ‘Internet’ get actual meaning.
